Weekly Update: September 28, 2005
With this last hurricane behind us now, perhaps we can breathe a sigh of relief and keep our fingers crossed that this will be the end of them. I know we still have two more months of hurricane season, but I'm choosing to think positively.
Fall is definitely here! Can you feel it? Can you see it? It's in the air, it's even reflected in the mood of many people! Those lazy, hazy days of summer are over... get the pumpkins out, put the cider on the stove and get ready for cooler days... well maybe not yet, but the thought is nice, isn't it? We're kicking off the first week of Fall with our Pumpkin Portraits on Saturday! Why stand in the hot sun at a local pumpkin patch when you can have a wonderful portrait taken here, in a nice air conditioned environment? We have a few openings available, so if you haven't reserved your spot give a us a call. Beth is an awesome photographer, you can check out her website at www.studiobphotography.net
This has been a busy week here in the store preparing for the Memory Trends Show in Las Vegas next week. We have been taking inventory, previewing new product lines and preparing for a busy holiday season! While trade shows can be fun, they are also exhausting! A great deal of preparation goes into the planning... budgets, inventory levels, needs and desires of customers, market forecasts and many other variables. It's miles of walking on those trade show floors, hours of writing orders with the reps, and then lots of second guessing, even after you have methodically and strategically planned each one of your purchases! We keep our fingers crossed and hope that when the orders start arriving, you will be as excited as we are with our choices.
In an industry as driven as ours by consumer demand, and new product presentations on a daily basis, this is a daunting task! We try to do our best to bring you the best, in every way possible. We continue to raise the bar, to become more knowledgeable ourselves, to offer training and classes that will not only teach you how to use products but inspire you as well. Watch in the upcoming months as we share new partnerships with manufactures, additional workshops and presentations, and extending training in technique and methods classes. Margaret and I will be attending EK Success SDU Training (Scrapbook Design University) in November and we are thrilled to introduce SDU to our Sarasota customers. Made For Memories is the only store from Tampa to Port Charlotte that qualifies for this prestigious position. As an EK Success Elite store, we have partnered to raise the bar another notch! Watch your E-mails for details to follow!

Weekly Update: September 21, 2005
Tomorrow marks the first day of Fall, and instead of temperatures cooling off and cider brewing on the stove, we find ourselves bracing yet one more time, as mother nature threatens the Gulf Coast. Our friends and families in Louisiana and Mississippi have suffered a great deal, and now the very ones that came to their aid in Texas, face the same fears. As I write this update, Rita's final destination is not yet determined. Having faced the horrendous year that our area faced last year, no one knows better than we do, the helpless feelings these disasters impose. While we all reach out in our own ways, let us remember that it really does take a village to make a difference. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have faced, or are facing the effects from Katrina and Rita. Remember, there are no small acts of kindness. Any act of kindness is immeasurable.
If you missed out on this weeks SEI classes, don't fret, their are two more next week. Check out the Events & Promotions section of the website to see the samples. these are great classes, and provide a completed album in just a couple of hours. Weekly
Update: August 26, 2005
Hello Everyone. I am going to make
an attempt at giving you a weekly
update! My road of recovery, from
surgery has been very slow and
rough, so I haven't been able to
focus on the store. A great big
"THANK YOU"
to Jenny,
Jane, Margaret and Jeannie
for pitch hitting, and working all
those extra hours in my absence!
What a great group! Thank you to so
many of you, for your phone calls,
E-mails, cards, flowers, books and
other gifts! I am so blessed to be
in an industry that I love, where
the greatest benefit that is
received, are the friendships that
are made, simply by touching lives!
Thank You! I still have some rough
road ahead and several more weeks of
limited activity, but I expect to be
back to full speed, as quickly as I
can!
One of the worst things about
convalescing at home is that you are
faced with all of your "un-done
household projects". While I am
unable to do anything about them, I
see one job after another that needs
to be tackled, and I grow more
frustrated at the inability to
tackle them. SOOOOO, I have begun to
compile a list of some of the things
I am able to do. Forgive me for
using this forum for my personal use
but I'm hoping under the
circumstances, you'll allow me to do
so. My Condo renovation began before
my surgery. I have new furniture
arriving in a few weeks and must
sell some things to make room. If
you are interested in any of these
items please give me a call at the
store.
Loveseat &
Ottoman $600.00
Patio Table
with 6 chairs, 2 are swivel $450.00
I will also have a great Scrapbook
desk and storage accessories in a
few weeks. These will not be
available for several weeks so I'll
post photo's later!
Ok, now on to the business of
SCRAPBOOKING!
Our bus trip is still on, despite
the inclement weather! A little rain
can't keep a "scrapbooker" from
shopping right?? The bus will leave
tomorrow promptly at 7:30 AM, filled
with anxious ladies, lots of prizes
and enough enthusiasm to fly us to
Orlando!

I apologize for not
getting an E-mail out last week. I
am having surgery this Wednesday,
and will be out of commission for
awhile. I was so busy trying to
prepare for my absence, that the
week just slipped away from me. At
any rate, I will try to fill you in
on the remainder of the August
happenings, in case I don't get an
E-mail out next week either.
First and
foremost mark you calendars for
August 31st!
Not only will it be the
"Grand Prize
Drawing" for our
EK Scutto Bag
but it will also be the end to our
"Summer
Anniversary Celebration".
Ladies, you know me, I don't do
things in a small way! All I can
tell you now is; to mark your
calendars, clear your plans for the
day, and watch your E-mails for the
details. I will send an E-mail out
on August 30th with the details!
10:00 - 3:00
will be the time, August 31st will
be the day!
You won't want
to miss it!
Scrapbook EXPO Bus Trip
If you are going on the
Scrapbook Expo Bus Trip with us on
Saturday, August 27th please call
the store to confirm your spot and
receive your final details. We have
a flyer with all the pertinent info
that you will need. If you prefer to
have it snail mailed, please call
the store and confirm your snail
mail address. We are so excited and
can't wait for a fun filled day. We
have sooooooooo many great things in
store for you all. You won't believe
how many incredible prizes we have
for you, as well!
Applegate Page Kits
We're making room for
even more of these great kits. We
have a ton of new ones that will
arrive in September and we need to
make room for them.... so guess
what? We have 30 different kits on
sale at 50%
off! Themes for holidays,
sports, babies, kids, beach,
wedding, even a couple of Disney
kits! Don't miss out on this
incredible opportunity to stock up
on these fabulous kits! Just think,
two for the price of One! As you
know, these kits are filled with
every embellishment, brad, fiber
etc. needed to complete them.
They'll look just as wonderful as
the originals!

Workshops
Next Saturday's workshops
will be filled with laughter and
fun. We kick off the day with the
Bazzill Bit's and Pieces class from
10:30 - 12:30. This class is
adorable. You'll learn the technique
of book binding the Bazzill way,
completing a 5 x 7 album in the
process. Check out the sample.
Doesn't it just inspire you to
"think Fall"?
September's Calendar and
schedule will be on the website by
the end of the week. I can promise
you some fun and exciting classes
for September! I am especially
excited about the "Stamping With
Your Favorite Fonts" workshop on
Saturday. Sept. 17th. Special guest
teacher, Beth McCaa is a wonderfully
talented Graphic Designer and
Photographer. Beth will teach you
how to take your favorite computer
font, make a rubber stamp from it
and be able to use it numerous ways
and times on your scrapbook pages!
You won't want to miss this fun,
informative class!
Beth is also a new Mommie. Her
schedule now, prevents her from
devoting as much time as needed, to
be on our "Design Team" so she's
found the next best thing. She will
be a guest teacher from time to time
and do some other special events as
well. Watch for something else fun
from Beth in October!
You'll Flip over the "Flip Photo
Book" workshop on Saturday September
24th. This is one of the most unique
little ideas. The sample will be on
display soon! Trust me, this is not
your ordinary little book! Your
friends and family will be baffled
by how it works and think you spent
hours and hours making it! You'll be
surprised at how easy it is when you
take this class.

Ade
Wow, the last weekend before school
starts and I know all of you Moms
are filled with emotion. Some are
anxious to send your little ones
back, and have some time to
yourselves again. Others are facing
sending their little ones off for
the first time, and are filled with
anxiety. I remember those days well.
It's amazing how each stage of life
teaches us some new lesson. Whatever
your situation is, I wish you peace
and quiet, that you probably haven't
had all summer, and peace in knowing
your little one is just starting
another chapter in their life, as
well.
For you Moms sending your babies off
to college, that's a whole other
story. The excitement and joy you
share with them are mixed with the
pain and sadness of your "soon to be
empty nest"! I can only tell you
that it is an unavoidable process
you will go through, and it's never
easy. On the other side of that
process though, you will be filled
with a sense of pride and joy as you
watch your child become an adult,
almost over night! My best advice is
to find projects to keep you busy
and to try and avoid going into
their empty rooms. Close the door
until you are able to open it again
without crying!
Yes, I remember each one of these
stages and the emotions that each
memory brings, float to the surface.
Some of you will remember that when
my youngest (Jenny) graduated from
High School on Saturday, June 3,
2000 a new adventure began for me.
After 18 months of planning, Made
For Memories opened their doors on
Monday, June 5, 2000 and my focus
became the store. As you know,
running a successful business takes
more than just providing products for
the consumer. It takes a great deal
of planning and forecasting for the
future. Without looking ahead you
are not able to be productive in the
present.
I was very honored and proud to be
contacted this week by Steve Ruelle,
the CEO of Making Memories, one of
the largest manufactures in the
Scrapbooking Industry. Making
Memories is also in the process of
planning for the year 2006 and
beyond. Steve wanted my input,
opinions, thoughts and ideas in
several areas. We spent an hour and
half on the phone discussing
everything from product development
to
market competition and market
saturation. It was a very
enlightening discussion. I am
thrilled to say that Steve believes
that we are right on target, have a
pulse for our customers needs and
desires, and that our plans for the
future are right on track. We are
excited about the industry, and
anxious to watch as the cream rises
to the top. As always, your opinions
are important to us, so please feel
free to share your thoughts and
ideas with us, as well.

Can you believe it's the end of July
already? This summer has certainly
flown by. School starts in a couple
of weeks and soon we'll be back into
the throws of school and sports
activities. What ever happened to
those lazy, hazy days of summer when
we were kids... and our summers
seemed to go on forever? It has been
another incredibly busy week here at
the store, and I apologize for
getting this weeks update out so
late, but there just aren't enough
hours in my days anymore to do all
the things I need to do. I spent 8
hours on Thursday with one of our
reps just ordering new products from
CHA Summer! We are so fortunate to
have such incredible reps who make
my job so easy! We ordered some
really awesome products and new
lines that are sure to please. Trust
me, when I say it took 8 hours to
place these orders, it was because
there is just sooooooooooooo much
really cool new stuff to choose
from! Watch your E-mails for details
as the orders start pouring in!
Workshops
Both Saturday workshops today were
great fun. Becky's
Alcohol Ink
class was incredible. After seeing
the finished samples, customers who
were in the store went crazy over
the look these inks created on
transparencies and metals. This is
definitely a class worth repeating!
Next Saturday's
Bazzill
Card Class is adorable.
There are only a couple of spots
left, so give us a call if you'd
like to sign up. Be sure to check
the website calendar for other
August workshops. There are only 2
spots available for
Julie's Bateman's Class
(the mini album) on August 20th.

Workshops
We have some great workshops
scheduled in July. Jeannie's paint

rescheduled due to her illness.
We're glad to report she's doing
better and will be back to work next
week. She's also teaching a great

embellishments from designer
Kimberly Hodges, for K&CO. We sold
out of this line within a week and
had to do a re-order they were so
popular. We've had lots of requests
for this class so I'm sure it will
fill quickly. Remember all class
samples are displayed in the store.

classes are always a treat. This

Alcohol Inks offers several ways for
using these great ink dyes. If
you've been afraid to try these
before, here's your chance to learn
from a real artist! Call today and
add your name to the list for a
